Jenny’s Jewels Shine Bright!

Image

There are times when you meet inspirational people and Jenny Ng is one of those people. As a close friend said of her, the only thing that shines brighter than her jewels is her spirit! She loves helping others and volunteering in any way she can to charitable causes. She also makes and sells some fabulous jewelry right here in Westchester. One of the places you can always find her gems is at “The Walk-In Closet” at the Saw Mill Club.

On this particular day that I stopped by to check out her jewelry, she was helping a client coordinate her outfit with her jewelry for an event that the client was attending. She also makes house calls and customizes pieces for even the most discriminating client. Is there anything Jennie doesn’t do???

Jennie even has a slogan and as I like to refer to it, her mission statement for her craft, which I posted here.

For over 20 years, Jennie Ng LoPesto blends
fashion and everyday living for unique custom affordable jewelry designs.
Philanthropic beliefs are a constant motivator
behind her work.

Her Diamonds

Image

On a recent Friday night I went with my family to Le Jardin du Roi lejardinchappaqua.com. They had one table open, in a booth near the back corner of the restaurant. My husband and son sat in the banquet facing the back and I was facing the two couples seated at the last table. The two women were facing me and I thought how pretty and perfect one of the woman’s features were, and at the same time I noticed how incredibly dressed down she was, with a her hair in a bun, (even for Westchester, on a Friday night in a crowded restaurant).

I also started to notice that one of the men, who shared the banquet back with my husband, was wearing an orange hoodie sweatshirt. What adult man is out like that, something just seemed strange to me and I started to analyze the table. The hoodie man was speaking to the guy he was with and I started to have a good view of his profile…. You guessed it, I hit the jackpot. I was now one of those people who could say, oh yeah, I was out the other night and sat right next to Rob Thomas, his wife and there non-music couple friends (as Rob called them).

My husband claimed Rob was too loud and talked non-stop about his songwriting. Of course, I was dying that I wasn’t on that side listing to every last detail!

Rob got up at least three times during the meal; to go to the bathroom, go outside with his friend, etc. I wonder if he wanted people to see him or does he just have ants in his pants. Man, no one is safe from my blog and me. I tried to start singing one of his songs so he’d hear me, but my kids begged me not to embarrass them.

For all you ladies reading this (well, I guess you are the only ones reading this) Marisol was eating French fries!

I wish I had the nerve to ask for a pic with him, but alas, I had hit my two drink self-imposed minimum for the night, so I really had needed one more drink to put me over the edge and become gutsy.

This celeb spotting happened just a day after I saw Hank Azaria eating at Marianis. I was truly on a roll.

Happy continued celeb stalking to all!

Cook and Bake Center Interview

I interviewed the owner of the Cook and Bake Center in Mamaroneck for a local news show. I also interviewed a client of hers named, Stefanie Bhalla. Stefanie rents out space at the Cook and Bake Center to make her jarred marinara sauces. They looked amazing as she was brewing them in hugh vats! She sells them on her website which bares the company name, duecellucci.com. A portion of the sale of each jar go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. A very impressive entrepreneur!

Wendy Williams

The Wendy Williams show has always intrigued me from when it first hit the airwaves. I’m not sure if it’s her wigs, her larger than life boobs or the fact that she coined her show’s phase “how you doinnnng.” when greeting her audience and guests. I also am impressed with her opening monologue “Hot Topics.” She digs up such good celebrity gossip and tries to act like she’s judging the celebs and not judging them all at the same time. Let’s not forget her relationship advice that she gives out to her audience. Always interesting….

Instead of re-inventing a wheel I’m pulling the Hot Topics idea straight from “how ya doinnnng,” Wendy.

Hot Topics in Real Estate:

Currently there are 94 houses for sale in the Byram Hills School District and the most expensive one is on for a cool $24mill on Cowdray Park Drive in Armonk, “how ya doinnnng!!!”

Hot Topics in Fashion:

I spent some time shopping this past vacation and I noticed from Urban Outfitters to Bloomingdales to the Today Show cropped tops are everywhere! All you fashionistas out there may have already known about this trend, but hey, it takes me a beat or two to catch up. Here are two different looks from http://www.shopbop.com/

Image

Image

Well, this is kinda a young look, and there’s all kinds of advice on sites as to how to wear the tops, so only a drop of skin shows! I’m not sure you will see me wearing this around, but more power to you ladies who can!

Stayed tuned for future hot topics!

Btw, I have added a widget onto this site where you can sign up to have the blog send you an email when there is a new post! At least I think I was able to make that happen?

Never Let Them See You Sweat

Image

I was asked to write copy and record a radio spot for a local restaurant for WFAS FM Radio. How did this come about you ask or maybe you didn’t, but since I can’t shut up, I’ll tell you anyway. I have a few restaurant promotional videos that I have made and a new restaurant has hired me to film one of the experiential videos for them.

Yah! Great, a new client I thought… as we are sitting down to talk about making the video the owner keeps commenting on how I bring a personality to the videos (where that came from I just can’t imagine) and he decides I would be perfect to represent his restaurant not only in the video but also on the radio. I’m like, sure, no problem! I write radio spots ALL THE TIME! I wonder if he believed me? I guess he didn’t really care, cause he had me lock, stock and barrel and he knew it! Of course, he knew if I was putting my self out there in these videos I would just about do anything to get on air!

So given about one day I write two radio spots like I’m doing it for years! We meet at the radio station and I’m all set to put my headphones on in a booth, meet a celebrity DJ and take a selfie. Alas, NO headphones, NO booth, NO celebrity, just a room with recording equipment and a know-it-all guy in a baseball cap who works the equipment. Needless to say, I was in seventh heaven! The owner loved what I wrote and the energy in my delivery. Not bad for a days work!

I wonder if this is how Elvis Duran got started…

When Real Estate Meets Hollywood

Screen shot 2014-01-21 at 10.55.18 PM

I recently received a phone call from a client, a few months after I sold them a house. I was surprised to hear from them and the voice mail message sounded as though it was urgent that I return their call. As a real estate agent you never want to get an urgent call from a past client once you’ve closed on their house. I went into panic mode as I realized I had a missed call from them a week prior to this message.

After a few calming meditation style or at least what I envision to be meditation style breaths. I called them back. Hi, I said “its Rebecca.” They sounded SO HAPPY to hear from me! What a relief I thought, as I unclenched my fists. It turns out they’re in Mexico, and they love their new house and can I do them a HUGE favor! Hmmm….I think I can handle a favor as I collapsed into my chair!

A Hollywood movie has approached us and wants to film a movie in our house. I can barely get the words out of mouth, huh, what did you say, and I asked him again????? Wow! He needed me to meet the director of the movie and some crew at his house the next morning. Of course, I say, no problem, I seriously was ready to drop my whole life’s schedule to be at their beckon call to unlock the house for the film crew. How did this guy know to call me??? Is it really written all over my face when you meet me?? Please call me and think of me when ever any type of filming or production is taking place! I told him he had called the right person for the job! He said, he knew he did!

Could this really be happening, right here in my little town! At one point the director whispered to his crew and asked if the real estate girl was still here. I yelled out, “I’m in the next room” and he laughed and said aw too bad, I didn’t want you to hear how much we loved the house!

Well that’s my story of my worlds colliding, feeling a little like George Costanza right now….

Free Vacation

Image

There’s nothing like a free vacation! That was my motto for the month leading up to x-mas break.  I had four reward point plane tickets and a few nights at the ever-so-posh Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami.  I felt like I had won the lottery. During Thanksgiving, the Fontainebleau offered cyber Monday deals.  Half price rooms during December and “much to my wondering eyes did appear” that applied to the nights of my stay.

The hotel was like walking into Paradise, from the room upgrade by the friendly check-in clerk to my kids walking past Miley Cyrus’s family in the lobby! Oh yeah, can’t forget the whole Louisville basketball team at the surrounding tables during lunch at the poolside restaurant.

The weather happened to have been perfect and I think most of my Florida friends were happy to hang, chat, lay on the beach and have their kids play in the bathtub temperature pool, all the while looking at us wondering why we were heading off to the not-as-happenin’ and conservative, Ft. Lauderdale.  Did we need our heads examined they wondered?  Possibly! But, this was called a “FREE” vacation and I had to move forward and stay on the “free” track.

Image

Our next destination was the Ft. Lauderdale Harbor Beach Marriott. Five free nights thanks to Marriott points! Not as posh, but the comp’d oversized cabana, equipped with TV, from my most favorite Marriott employee, Davidson, was not too shabby. The beach there is also stunning.  We had Christmas Eve dinner at Anthony’s Runway 84, which was packed with people who know where to find excellent, authentic southern Italian food in South Florida. I thought I was in the movie, “The Godfather,” at any moment Al Pacino could have walked through the door.  I was interested to learn they also own Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza.  A few other places we hit that are worth mentioning, Steak 954 in the W and Rocco’s Tacos on Las Olas.

I knew South Beach was great, but the rest of South Florida is just as good! I have to admit, by the end of the trip, I was questioning the “FREE” part of this vacation.  The money I had spent on tips, drinks, dining and hangin’ at Liv (okay, so I never made it in) made this just as expensive a trip as any.  I guess there really isn’t anything called a ‘FREE” vacation after all.

Happy travels and Happy New Year!

The Beanie

The beanie is the current cute winter hat that seems to be everywhere! I even have one or so I thought? Apparently, according to my daughter, my beanie that I wear proudly and fashion forwardly on these cold winter days is NOT the latest beanie and is just, well… strange.

I was in the mall yesterday trying on the new, cool looking beanies and after trying on a few, I do admit I’m due for an update.

I started at Nordstrom’s men’s department where they have a cool assortment laid out on the table right when you walk in. I then made my way to Urban Outfitters where they have an outrageous assortment of hats. I also met a fellow mom at my kids’ camp reunion who was wearing a great looking hat, when I inquired about her beanie she said it came from the Shopbop website.

How to properly wear a beanie is as follows; the hat is not supposed to lay flat against your head, (like I always sport it), but is supposed to have a little bit of extra room on top of your head, like demonstrated in the pictures below.

I’ve also included the what not to wear look, in the photo below. In case, you were wondering, that’s my out of date beanie.

Happy hat hunting!

The Taste Off

ice cream photo

I’m a self proclaimed foodie, so it’s hard to find flavorful, low calorie food. I decided to hold a low cal yogurt dessert taste off.  I realized I had tried all three of the above low fat treats and wanted to share my findings.

Let’s go from left to right. Yasso makes a very nice looking low cal Greek Yogurt bar. If you’re a weight watchers fan, its ONLY two points. I had the vanilla bean flavor pop and at first it tasted good, and seemed to be a pretty big portion for an ice cream bar, I was definitely psyched! As I tasted it once and then a second time there was some kind of after taste that I didn’t quite recognize. Not sure what to make of that after taste thing, as it is made from all natural ingredients and only 80 calories!  It also comes in strawberry, coconut, mango and raspberry.

Next is Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurt in a cup. It tells you right on the label it’s 3 points on Weight Watchers, well thank you very much, now I have one less thing to look up!  I have tried the blueberry, strawberry and my favorite, vanilla bean.  The berry yogurts have frozen chunks of berry, not a cool texture in your mouth, but I still think it’s delish! By the way this is not all natural, like the Yasso bars.

Last is the Arctic Zero. The WHOLE pint is ONLY 150 calories.  In this case, you get what you get and you don’t get upset.  I can’t describe the flavor, because I can’t find one. But, I guess the upside is feeling like you ate a WHOLE pint of what is called, Ice Cream. As the container says, it is Fat Free, Lactose Intolerant Friendly and Gluten Free. Yum!

Healthy Choice is the clear winner for this taste test with low calories and the best flavor!

Happy taste testing!
